Nigeria Honors the Late President Buhari with a Tuesday Public Holiday

Tuesday has been declared a public holiday by the Interior Ministry in remembrance of Buhari’s legacy of honesty, service, and solidarity.

In remembrance of Nigeria’s late former president Muhammadu Buhari, GCFR, who passed away in London on Sunday, the Federal Government has proclaimed Tuesday, July 15, 2025, a public holiday.

The Ministry of Interior said in a statement on Monday that the holiday is a part of the seven-day national mourning period that President Bola Ahmed Tinubu had previously declared.

After receiving presidential clearance, Dr. Olubunmi Tunji-Ojo, the Federal Government’s Minister of the Interior, made the announcement.

“President Muhammadu Buhari served Nigeria with honor, integrity, and a steadfast dedication to the advancement and unity of our magnificent country.” All Nigerians have the chance to consider his life, leadership, and the principles he espoused on this public holiday, the Minister said.

In keeping with Buhari’s vision of a united and prosperous Nigeria, he also urged Nigerians to use the day to honor the previous president’s legacy by fostering national cohesiveness, patriotism, and peace.

The Ministry affirmed that during the seven-day period of mourning, national flags will remain at half-mast starting on Sunday, July 13.
