Peter Obi: I Will Run for President in 2027 and Continue to Be a Member of the Labour Party

Peter Obi has denied rumors that he will be Atiku Abubakar’s running mate and declared that he will run for president in 2027.

The Labour Party’s (LP) 2023 general election presidential candidate, Peter Obi, has declared his intention to run for president again in 2027.

Additionally, he refuted recent rumors that he might run alongside former Vice President Atiku Abubakar for vice president.

In a Sunday television interview, Obi made no bones about his political goals. “I think I am qualified to run for president of the Federal Republic of Nigeria, and I intend to do so,” he said.

Obi, who was the governor of Anambra State from 2006 to 2014, explained that even though he is involved with the recently established opposition coalition led by the African Democratic Congress (ADC), he is still a staunch supporter of the Labour Party.

He clarified that his involvement in the coalition does not constitute betraying the LP. In reference to the widely shared rumors that he was Atiku’s running partner, he stated, “This is not in play.” “No one has ever talked about that. People make a lot of assumptions. No one has ever talked to me about whether I will receive an A, B, or C.

Obi went on to justify his choice to run against President Bola Tinubu and the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) in the 2027 elections by joining the coalition of opposition leaders that recently chose the ADC as its unified political platform. He claimed that the necessity for broad experience and group strength was the driving force behind his decision.

“I need people with a history of failure and success. “You can’t manage a complicated nation like Nigeria by yourself,” he continued.

Prominent politicians including Atiku Abubakar, former Senate President David Mark, former Interior Minister Rauf Aregbesola, former Sokoto Governor Aminu Tambuwal, former Transportation Minister Rotimi Amaechi, former Sports Minister Solomon Dalung, and former APC National Chairman John Odigie Oyegun are part of the coalition, which was announced last Wednesday.
