Mark Carney will take office as prime minister of Canada, but he must now deal with Trump
On Friday, former central banker Mark Carney will take the oath of office as prime minister of Canada, placing him in a position to oppose tariffs imposed by U.S. President Donald Trump that might destroy Canada’s trade-dependent economy.
Carney will take the oath of office in a ceremony that will begin at 11 a.m. ET (1500 GMT) and be witnessed by Governor General Mary Simon, King Charles’ personal representative and Canada’s head of state.
