The UN claims that M23 killed children in Bukavu, Congo
The U.N. human rights office expressed worry on Tuesday about the event and other abuses since the rebels arrived in the eastern city of Bukavu, where three youngsters were killed by the Rwanda-backed M23 after they wore guns and uniforms left behind by the Congolese army.
“Our Office has confirmed cases of summary execution of children by M23 after they entered the city of Bukavu last week,” Ravina Shamdasani, a spokesman for the U.N. Human Rights office, said at a Geneva news briefing.
She also expressed worry for civil society members, journalists, and human rights advocates who are trying to avoid M23 retaliation.
