Uganda gets a new central bank. Governor and his assistant
President Yoweri Museveni’s administration announced on Monday that Uganda had appointed a new central bank governor and deputy governor.
According to a release, Augustus Nuwagaba will serve as Michael Atingi-Ego’s deputy and he has been named governor.
Prior to returning to the central bank in 2020 as deputy governor, Atingi-Ego had a top post there.
Following the passing of longtime governor Emmanuel Tumusiime-Mutebile in 2022, he has served as the bank’s interim head.
At Makerere, Uganda’s biggest public university, Nuwagaba teaches economics. As the head of Reev Consult International, a consultancy headquartered in Uganda, he has previously held positions with the country’s finance ministry.
Museveni’s administration stated that their names and curriculum vitae will be forwarded to parliament for approval.
