President Sandu of Moldova travels to Kyiv to meet with Zelenskiy
Maia Sandu, the president of Moldova, posted on the social media platform X that she had arrived in Kyiv on Saturday for discussions with Volodymyr Zelenskiy, the president of Ukraine.
“We’ll discuss security, energy, infrastructure, trade, and mutual support on the EU path,” she added.
Since the Russian gas supplies via Ukraine ceased at the beginning of the year, Moldova is experiencing an energy crisis.
Since Moscow has been waging a full-scale invasion for over three years, Kyiv has refused to engage in negotiations to extend the gas transit agreement.
Moldova claims that there are other supply channels, but Russia has not allowed gas shipments to be rerouted until an alleged $709 million in arrears—a sum that Chisinau disputes—are paid.
