Venezuela will free 146 more election protesters, bringing the total number of people freed to 1,515
On Monday, Venezuelan Attorney General Tarek Saab said that 146 more people who were arrested after an election in July would be set free. This brings the total number of prisoners freed to 1,515, just a few days before President Nicolas Maduro starts his third term.
At least six times now, the government has said that people who were jailed for protesting after the election will be freed. Almost 2,000 people were caught.
The highest court in the country and the electoral authority say Maduro won, but international observers say the vote was unfair, and several Western countries recognize Edmundo Gonzalez, the former opposition candidate who is currently in Washington, D.C., as the victor.
