Robins is appointed manager of Stoke City

Mark Robins has been appointed as Stoke City’s third permanent manager of the season, with a three-and-a-half-year contract. The Championship side made the announcement on Wednesday.

Robins, who was terminated by Coventry City in November after leading the team for seven years, succeeded Narcis Pelach, who was terminated on Friday after only 19 games in command.

Pelach joined Stoke in September after Steven Schumacher was terminated due to an inadequate season debut.

“Mark established a successful entity with a genuine identity and longevity at Coventry, and he departed the club in a significantly improved state than when he arrived.” Jon Walters, Stoke’s sporting director, stated, “That is precisely our objective.”

Stoke are currently 18th in the table with 25 points from 24 matches, following their first victory in 10 matches with a 1-0 home victory over Sunderland on Sunday, under interim manager Ryan Shawcross.

Coventry was promoted to the Championship in 2020 under the leadership of Robins, a former Manchester United and Manchester City striker. However, they narrowly lost out on promotion to the Premier League in 2023 after losing the playoff final to Luton Town in penalties.

Stoke will play their inaugural match under Robins’ leadership on Saturday against Plymouth Argyle, who severed ways with their manager, Wayne Rooney, on Tuesday.
