Kim Jong Un of North Korea attends New Year’s festivities and accepts a card from Xi of China, according to KCNA
According to a Wednesday report by state media KCNA, North Korean leader Kim Jong Un and his daughter Ju Ae watched fireworks and an ice dancing show during the New Year’s celebrations.
State media photographs suggested that senior North Korean officials joined them in observing the activities. Kim’s remarks was not mentioned at all.
The Chinese president was among the many heads of state who sent Kim New Year’s cards, according to KCNA, though it did not specifically name Xi Jinping or provide any other information.
Additionally, it didn’t say whether Kim greeted Xi.
KCNA’s account of Kim’s meeting with Russian President Vladimir Putin the day before, which claimed that Kim had promised in a letter to Putin to strengthen the nation’s all-encompassing strategic cooperation with Russia, was in stark contrast to the succinct state media statement.
