Togo bans the Russian ride-hailing app Yango
Togo’s transport minister shut down the ride-hailing app Yango, which is owned by Russia’s tech giant Yandex, because of safety concerns, only a few months after it started running in the West African country.
The ministry said in a statement on Thursday that Yango started doing business in June without permission and against the rules of the country.
The ministry said the choice was made because of worries about the safety of passengers, the law, and keeping the peace.
“The activities of the operator YANGO are therefore suspended across the entire national territory,” it said.
A request for word from the company did not get a response right away.
