Biden criticizes Trump for spreading false information about Hurricanes Helene and Milton

US President Biden said that his predecessor spread a lot of lies about how the government handled the recent storms.

President Joe Biden of the United States called the spread of false information about Hurricanes Milton and Helene “un-American.” He specifically called out his predecessor for spreading lies about the government’s efforts to help and recover people.

As Hurricane Milton moved toward Florida on Wednesday, Biden said he was worried that people who need help were in danger because of the “reckless, irresponsible, and relentless” spread of false information about how the government was responding to the storm.

During his speech at the White House, Biden said, “To be blunt, these lies are not American.”
“This flood of lies was led by former President Trump.”

Biden pointed out that Trump had made a number of false claims, such as the false claim that disaster relief funds had been used to help refugees.

“That was a stupid thing to say.” “That’s not true,” Biden said.

Reporters asked Biden why he thought Trump was sharing these lies, and he said he didn’t know.

“I don’t know at all.” You can guess, but I think it’s not very American—I’ve used the term more than any other time in my career. It’s not American. “That’s not who the hell we are,” he said.

Biden also said it was wrong for Republican Representative Marjorie Taylor Greene, who is close to Trump, to spread “even stranger” claims.

“Congresswoman Marjorie Taylor Greene from Georgia is now saying that the federal government is controlling the weather we are controlling the weather,” he said. “That’s way too silly.” “It must end.”

In a CNN interview, Vice President Kamala Harris, who is running for president as the Democratic nominee, agreed with Biden that Trump’s acts were “unconscionable.”

Harris said, “We all know it’s dangerous, and the games play and politics have to stop at some point, especially when there is a crisis.”
On Wednesday, Trump said again that he didn’t like how the Biden government was handling the situation.

“This government has not done a good job at all.” Trump said this at a campaign event in Pennsylvania, a key swing state: “Terrible, terrible.”
He also said, “We just pray for everyone.” “We pray that God will protect them.”

Around 8:30 p.m. local time (01:30 GMT Thursday), Hurricane Milton hit land near Siesta Key, Florida. Winds of up to 193 km/h (120 mph) were present. It was less than two weeks since Hurricane Helene, which killed at least 230 people in Florida and several southern states. The National Hurricane Center says that Hurricane Milton is “extremely dangerous” and “life-threatening.”
