11-year-old boy fatally stabbed while protecting mom in domestic violence attack, officials say

An 11-year-old boy was seriously stabbed while protecting his pregnant mother against her ex-boyfriend who was released from prison a day before the incident, according to authorities.

Jayden Perkins and his mother were stabbed Wednesday morning in the 5900 block of North Ravenswood Avenue.

Both were taken to the hospital; but Jayden died from his injuries.

Crossetti Brand, 37, has been charged with nine felonies including first-degree murder in the death of Jayden Perkins, attempted first degree murder and home invasion with a dangerous weapon.

“An innocent child’s life was taken as he tried to protect his mother,” Cook County State’s Attorney said. “And a mother was attacked in what should have been the safest place for her, her home.”
