8 kids, 1 adult die from illness after eating sea turtle meat on small African island

Eight children and one adult are deceased on a small African island and dozens more were hospitalized after eating sea turtle meat, which is regarded as a delicacy in the area even though it is well-known food poisoning dangers — including the risk of death.

A minimum of 78 other people were reported sick during the incident that took place earlier this week on Pemba Island, a remote tropical region in the Zanzibar off the eastern coast of Africa.
