UGANDA COMMANDER IN CHIEF

President Yoweri Kaguta Museveni, also the Commander in Chief of the armed forces, led a heartfelt Thanksgiving ceremony to honor the tireless efforts of Uganda’s security agencies during the recently concluded 19th Non-Aligned Movement Summit (NAM) and the Third South Summit of the Group of 77 and China (G77+China). The ceremony brought together senior and junior officers from the Uganda People’s Defence Forces (UPDF), Uganda Police Force (UPF), Uganda Prisons Service (UPS), and Internal Security Organisation (ISO).

President Museveni expressed his appreciation for the dedication and commitment of the security personnel who played a pivotal role in ensuring the success of the dual summits that took place from January 15 to 22, 2024. He particularly highlighted the achievement of peace and security as a testament to the patriotism and nationalism embedded in the personnel following the NRM doctrine.

During the ceremony, the President directed the police and prison authorities to intensify efforts in constructing modern houses for security personnel, emphasizing that such accommodations are essential for enabling them to serve the country diligently. He commended the UPDF for their ongoing housing program and urged its extension to cover all units.

In his capacity as the current NAM Chairperson, President Museveni expressed a willingness to collaborate with non-NAM member states, provided they respect the cultural values of the member states. He emphasized the importance of working towards global peace and stability and encouraged a South-to-South investment approach to achieve global affluence.

President Museveni urged Uganda to capitalize on the opportunities arising from hosting the summits, emphasizing the need for global markets for locally produced goods. He highlighted the potential for massive markets for Ugandan products within the NAM and G77 groups.
