At least 25 people have lost their lives in a bus crash on Cape Verde's Fogo island, according to reports from the agency

At least 25 individuals, including numerous schoolchildren and teenagers, lost their lives when a bus fell into a ravine on Fogo, one of the islands of Cape Verde located in the Atlantic Ocean off the coast of West Africa, as reported by the national news agency Inforpress on Sunday.

The crash took place on a mountain road in northern Fogo late on Saturday, when the bus veered off the road and fell approximately 30 meters into a steep ravine, the agency reported.

The agency reported that a significant number of those on board were students from primary and secondary schools.

Several injured passengers were transported to Sao Francisco de Assis Regional Hospital on Fogo.

Education officials stated that the outing was not organized by local schools but was an annual trip privately arranged by the driver, who was among those killed, Inforpress reported.
