Samsung is focusing on attracting iPhone users as Apple makes its move into the global foldable smartphone market

Samsung is ramping up its initiatives to draw in iPhone users as Apple's presence transforms the competitive landscape in the rapidly expanding foldable smartphone market.

Samsung Electronics aims to enhance its standing in the foldable smartphone market, as increasing consumer interest aligns with Apple's foray into this segment.

The South Korean technology giant reported that the percentage of iOS users transitioning to its latest Galaxy Z Fold8 series worldwide was 1.6 times greater than the switching rate noted for the previous-generation Galaxy Z Fold7 and Flip7.

Samsung introduced the Galaxy Z Fold8 series in July, having been a trailblazer in the modern foldable smartphone market with the launch of its first Galaxy Fold in 2019.

The company’s latest initiative coincides with Apple’s launch of its inaugural foldable iPhone, representing a significant product introduction from the technology giant under the leadership of its new Chief Executive Officer, John Ternus.

In the United States, Samsung reported that 30 percent of Galaxy Z Flip8 purchasers transitioned from rival smartphone brands, with a majority of these new customers acquiring a foldable device for the first time.

Galaxy Z Fold8 buyers were especially drawn to the device’s sleek and lightweight design, along with its inner display that enhances multitasking and content consumption.

It noted that purchasers of the Galaxy Z Fold8 Ultra were attracted to its expansive screen and enhanced workspace, enabling them to accomplish more tasks without the need for a separate tablet.

Samsung is actively working to make it easier for iPhone users to transition to its Galaxy ecosystem.

The company has recently enhanced its Smart Switch feature, allowing iPhone users to wirelessly transfer data to a Galaxy device by simply scanning a QR code, eliminating the need to install the Smart Switch application on their iPhones.

Although Samsung currently holds a leading position, analysts anticipate that Apple's entry will greatly alter the dynamics of competition in the global foldable smartphone market.

Counterpoint Research projected in July that Samsung would maintain the largest share of the global foldable smartphone market in 2026, with 32 percent, while Apple is anticipated to capture 25 percent after entering the segment.

Huawei is anticipated to continue being a significant competitor, especially within the Chinese market.
