Dallas Cowboys quarterback Dak Prescott’s sexual assault lawsuit is dismissed by a judge

After months of litigation over an alleged event from 2017, Dallas Cowboys quarterback Dak Prescott’s sexual assault complaint was dismissed by a Texas judge. Collin County Judge Angela Tucker reportedly dismissed the case on Wednesday and set a hearing for later this year to discuss whether to take legal action against Prescott’s accuser, according to WFAA.

“The original lies by [the accuser], her team, and their recent failed attempt to sue him civilly are all just a continuation of their extortion plot against Dak,” stated Levi G. McCathern, Prescott’s attorney, in a statement provided to WFAA. These strategies undercut the gains our society has achieved in providing care for survivors of real sexual assault and divert attention from their trauma.

The supposed event allegedly happened after Prescott’s rookie season with the Cowboys, in the parking lot of a strip club in the Dallas region. Due to insufficient evidence, a brief police investigation was initiated but abandoned last month.

After Prescott filed a civil action against the lady, alleging she tried to blackmail him with false charges of sexual assault and demanded $100 million to be silent, his legal team made the accusations public. Prescott’s lawsuit states that in January, the lady and her lawyer filed a letter to Mississippi State, Prescott’s alma institution, describing the alleged assault. The letter was subsequently shared to Prescott’s attorneys.

The woman’s lawyer responded by bringing a countersuit alleging sexual assault. To be heard in the same court as Prescott’s claim, the original complaint was dismissed and refiled in Collin County, northeast of Dallas.
