OpenAI’s yearly revenue increased from $5.5 billion in December 2024 to $10 billion
With AI usage increasing, OpenAI said Monday that its annualized revenue run rate jumped to $10 billion as of June, setting the business up to meet its full-year goal.
As the popularity and usage of its ChatGPT artificial-intelligence models continue to expand, its estimated yearly revenue, based on current revenue data, was approximately $5.5 billion in December 2024.
This indicates that OpenAI is on pace to meet the $12.7 billion revenue goal it previously set for itself in 2025 and communicated with investors.
An OpenAI representative verified that the $10 billion amount does not include license income from OpenAI sponsor Microsoft (MSFT.O), opens new tabs, or significant one-time agreements. It was CNBC that originally revealed the details.
Given that the firm lost around $5 billion the previous year, OpenAI’s revenue milestone demonstrates how far ahead the company is in terms of revenue scale when compared to its rivals, who are also reaping the benefits of the expanding use of AI.
Recently, Anthropic’s annualized sales surpassed $3 billion due to the surge in demand from code-gen firms that use its models.
In March, OpenAI said that it would raise up to $40 billion at a $300 billion valuation in a new investment round sponsored by SoftBank Group (9984.T), opens new tab.
Since launching its ChatGPT chatbot more than two years ago, the company has launched a variety of subscription services for both individuals and companies.
As of the end of March, 500 million people were using OpenAI every week.
