Bright Stars defeat KCCA FC, and SC Villa returns to winning ways

In Jinja, SC Villa defeated Gaddafi 1-0 to snap a three-match losing streak and maintain their position atop the Ugandan Premier League standings.

Once again, Patrick Jonah Kakande displayed remarkable poise as he brought down a gorgeous Ronald Ssekiganda seeking pass, outmuscled three Gaddafi opponents, and finished with a goal in the 76th minute.

With their 12th victory in 24 games, Villa returns to fourth position with 45 points, two points behind leaders Kitara who have played one more game. After 24 games, Gaddafi is still fourth from the bottom with 19 points.

Hosts Soltilo Bright Stars ended the on-form KCCA’s five-game winning streak in Kavumba in the Wakiso District.

Actually, after falling behind twice, coach Abdallah Mubiru’s team required a Shaban Muhammad equalizer in the 75th minute to salvage a point in the 2-2 draw. The hosts took the lead in the 31st minute thanks to a goal from Bunjo Noordin, which was quickly cancelled out by Haruna Lukwago.

Three minutes into the second half, Ashiraf Mulindi gave Bright Stars their advantage back, but Shaban gave the visitors a point to square the score.

With three games remaining, KCCA’s third draw in 24 games has them in sixth place with 39 points, while Bright Stars, in 10th place with 30 points, are safely clear from any relegation concerns.
