Aaron Rodgers’ arrival increases the Steelers’ chances of winning the Super Bowl
The futures of the Pittsburgh Steelers have been recalibrated by numerous sportsbooks following Thursday’s announcement that quarterback Aaron Rodgers has signed a one-year contract.
Throughout the offseason, speculation has been widespread regarding the possibility of the four-time league MVP playing a 21st NFL season with the Steelers. However, there remained a chance that Rodgers might choose to sign with another team or retire.
Circa Sports informed Field Level Media that Pittsburgh’s Super Bowl odds at the book decreased from +600 to +500 after Thursday’s announcement, while the Steelers’ odds of winning the AFC changed from +2600 to +1800.
DraftKings currently has the Steelers listed at +4000 to win the Super Bowl, +2000 to secure the AFC title, and +550 to claim the AFC North championship. Their projected win total stands at 8.5 games.
Rodgers, 41, is said to be planning a trip to Pittsburgh to finalize the contract and aims to take part in the Steelers’ mandatory minicamp next week.
The Steelers found themselves in urgent need of a quarterback as they prepare to kick off the 2025 season against Rodgers’ former team, the New York Jets, on September 7. Rodgers is expected to start alongside Pittsburgh’s Week 1 starter from last season, Justin Fields, who has joined the Jets through free agency.
Prior to Rodgers’ anticipated agreement, Mason Rudolph was considered the likely starter for the Steelers. Rudolph made his return to the Steelers following a season spent with the Tennessee Titans.
Pittsburgh transitioned away from Russell Wilson, who took over for Fields seven games into the 2024 regular season and is also expected to start in New York as a member of the Giants.
Rodgers arrives in Pittsburgh following two underwhelming seasons with the Jets. He sustained a season-ending torn Achilles on the fourth play of the 2023 season, marking his first year with Gang Green; the Jets subsequently finished 5-12 under Rodgers in 2024, prompting the franchise to undergo a complete overhaul.
The 10-time Pro Bowler, who secured a Super Bowl victory with the Green Bay Packers in 2011, has also been associated with Green Bay’s division rival, the Minnesota Vikings, who will now proceed with J.J. McCarthy as their starting quarterback.
