Significant Concern Is Raised By Tanzanian Floods’ Increasing Death Toll And Displacement
Due to the floods, Tanzania’s death toll has doubled in recent weeks, totaling 155 fatalities.
Tanzania’s Prime Minister Kassim Majaliwa said on Thursday that catastrophic floods caused by heavy rainfall had affected over 200,000 people and claimed the lives of 155 people.
Due to heavier rains in recent weeks, especially in coastal regions and the capital city of Dar es Salaam, the death toll has doubled. El Niño, according to Prime Minister Kassim Majaliwa, is to blame for the deteriorating conditions, which have exacerbated the ongoing rainy season and seriously damaged infrastructure like roads, bridges, and railroads.
Schools that were flooded had to close, and rescue efforts were launched by emergency services for anyone who were left behind by the floodwaters.
Majaliwa asked district officials to make sure that relief reaches those who need it most, and she warned people living in low-lying regions to move to higher ground for safety. The heavy rains have impacted almost 51,000 homes, underscoring the pressing need for aid and support.
