A Kenyan movement on a purpose to ending violent behavior against women

She is the co-founder of Usikimye, a movement operating on ending the occurrence of Sexual and Gender-Based Violence (SGBV), offering a voice and refuge for victims and survivors.

Standing on the balcony of the Usikimye office, Migwi recalls how she found imprisonment to do the job she does.

“I found my voice in helping others, because I am a survivor of gender-based violence myself. And in helping others, I healed myself and found my voice,” she explained.

According to the Kenya government’s reports, about 60 women have been killed since the start of 2024.

In demonstration, Migwi, along with other feminist and non-governmental groups, established the anti-femicide protests around Kenya’s key cities and towns in January opposed to the killings.
