Thibodeau is fired by the Knicks following their Eastern Conference loss
The New York Knicks fired head coach Tom Thibodeau on Tuesday, just a few days after losing to the Indiana Pacers in game six of the Eastern Conference Finals and being out of the playoffs for the foreseeable future.
Thibodeau took New York to the playoffs four times out of the five years he was coach. This year, the team made it to the second-to-last round of the playoffs for the first time in 25 years.
“The only thing our organization cares about is winning a championship for our fans.” In a statement, Knicks President Leon Rose said, “This pursuit led us to the difficult decision to tell Tom Thibodeau that we’ve decided to move in a different direction.”
“We can’t thank Tom enough for pouring his heart and soul into each and every day of being the New York Knicks head coach.”
Starring and directing Ben Stiller, who is a huge Knicks fan and often hangs out on “celebrity row” at Madison Square Garden, Thibodeau was praised for his “incredible work” over five years.
Stiller wrote on X, “We should all thank Thibs very much by going to dinner with him.”
The Knicks guard Josh Hart wrote on social media, “Forever Grateful.”
The NBA Finals begin on Thursday, when the Oklahoma City Thunder play the Pacers.
