Pusha T: “I Don’t Think He’s A Man” Regarding His Present Relationship With Ye
“He’s showed me the weakest sides of him, and he knows how I think of weak people.”
With their new album, Let God Sort ‘Em Out, Clipse is preparing for their first group release in more than ten years. Pusha T talked candidly about his relationship with Ye, formerly known as Kanye West, during a promotional interview with GQ. Their personal and professional partnership ended in late 2022.
Ye said, “I miss me and Pusha’s friendship,” on Twitter/X a few days prior to the interview. But that won’t be sufficient to reunite the former partners, according to Push.
He acknowledges that “the last few months or years of his time with Kanye were him ‘playing the industry game’ more than anything,” stating that his and Ye’s friendship had already started to go apart long before the producer’s anti-Semitic tirades in 2022 were the final nail in the coffin.
“There were times when I realized that I was truly alone in everything that was happening in terms of rap drama, and so on,” Push said. The rapper earlier said on The Joe Budden Podcast that Ye’s backing of Pusha T in his conflict with Drake was ambiguous.
Push went on to say that at one time, the atmosphere in Ye’s camp got alarming. “I’m part of a large group of people. Everyone else is working, but I have a lot of stuff to do, so I leave, and when I return, the energy is gone. After that, you hear about the chats in the sidebar. Your homeboy is approaching you and saying, “Hey, they were saying this when you left.” I believe that we are all becoming occupied with this. In reality, however, everyone had their own goals. Furthermore, it seems like I was the only one who didn’t. I had the squad on my agenda. From then on, I simply saw everyone in a different light and thought, “We’re just going to make music.” There will be beatings for us. We intend to compose a few rap songs. And we will continue to move it along.
The Virginia MC said, “It’s like, bro, you’ve been mentioning me, screaming about me… you got every soul believing that I’ve done such a great injustice to you,” in reference to Ye’s most recent tirade against him. It’s a lie, too. He has his outbursts. The only thing I can say about him is that he is aware that I have explained to him in detail every problem he is currently experiencing and sobbing over on the internet. He must thus scream behind a mask when he stands there wearing his KKK mask and yelling like a professional wrestler. He speaks differently to me than he does to other people.
“Bro, we made some awesome sh*t. “We did,” Pusha said. Let me tell you something, though. He’s brilliant. And he has even more genius-level perception, don’t you think? However, he can see that I’m acting false around him, which is why we don’t get along. He is aware that I don’t consider him a man. He is aware of it. And for that reason, we are no longer able to build together. He is aware of how I truly feel about him, which is why we don’t click. He has shown me his weakest parts, and he is aware of my perception of weak individuals.
“The greatest thing he did and the reason I am okay with where me and him are right now—and I’m cool with staying that way—is because at the end of the day, my truth is my truth, but I still respect what he did in the business,” Pusha said, acknowledging some positive things Ye has done. He also criticizes the music we’ve created and the recordings he gave me, although he did give me all of the money that was left over after the Def Jam contract.
