CCM official: Tanzania’s general elections will take place in accordance with the constitution
Tanzania’s constitution will govern the country’s general elections in October 2025, a top official of the ruling Chama Cha Mapinduzi (CCM) party stated Friday.
Speaking to reporters in Songea, Ruvuma area, CCM Secretary General Emmanuel Nchimbi declared, “Nobody has the muscle to prevent the holding of the general elections.”
In response to the main opposition party Chama Cha Demokrasia na Maendeleo’s (CHADEMA) “No Reforms, No Elections” campaign, Nchimbi, who is also President Samia Suluhu Hassan’s running mate in the presidential election, responded.
“Every five years, our nation has held general elections. Since this is mandated by our constitution, no one can stop this democratic exercise, not even the president, vice president, or prime minister of the United Republic of Tanzania,” Nchimbi stated.
With the campaign slogan “No Reforms, No Election,” CHADEMA launched an effort to push for significant reforms to the electoral system late last year.
Tundu Lissu, the chairman of CHADEMA, asserts that the Electoral panel needs to be overhauled and that the panel shouldn’t include public employees chosen by the president.
In the general elections scheduled for October, Tanzanians will cast their ballots for the president, members of parliament, and council members.
