Dr. Dre says the former psychiatrist in the $10 million lawsuit is not entitled to damages

Dr. Dre has filed a fresh move to have the civil harassment complaint against him dismissed, continuing his legal struggle against his former doctor.

When Dr. Charles J. Sophy filed his harassment case in October, the court battle between him and the record producer started. He asserted that the hip-hop legend endangered his health and safety.

In addition, the irate doctor disclosed the threatening texts he had received from Dr. Dre and requested a temporary restraining order against him. The industry veteran, meanwhile, has called the therapist’s $10 million lawsuit a racist attack and denied any misconduct.

The founder of Aftermath Entertainment reportedly reaffirmed his innocence in the civil harassment case. Emphasizing that his former physician was not entitled to any damages, particularly the $10 million he sought, he pleaded with the court to dismiss the lawsuit.

In the application for dismissal, Dre’s lawyer contended that “[Charles] did not exercise ordinary care, caution, and prudence in connection with the transactions and events that are alleged in the complaint,” adding:

“[Charles’] lack of care, caution, and prudence were independent and unrelated to any of [Dre’s] actions.”

“Moreover, [Charles] directed, ordered, approved, or ratified the wrongful acts alleged in the complaint,” the records that In Touch was able to collect also stated. Therefore, [Charles] cannot recoup against [Dre], or if he can, any recovery ought to be lowered proportionately.”

Dr. Dre requests that the therapist pay for his legal fees.

In addition to requesting that the court not give Sophy any money, Dre asked the psychiatrist to pay his legal fees and costs. When Nicole Young, the music mogul’s ex-wife, sought the therapist’s assistance during their divorce in 2018, the two’s turbulent relationship got underway.

He was selected to mediate their divorce and worked “fairly” to assist them in resolving their differences, according to his lawsuit. But he asserted that Dre had been troublesome from the beginning, claiming that he vented “his frustrations about the mediation on [him].”

“Frustrations that manifested themselves in the form of a nearly year-long sustained campaign of late-night texts, threats of intimidation and violence and homophobic rhetoric (e.g., ‘You’re a b-tch,’ ‘Cat got your tongue?’),” the psychologist claimed.

The psychiatrist says he was harassed by the record producer and that it continued.

According to Sophy, he stopped communicating with the co-founder of Death Row Records when Dre and Nicole reached a divorce settlement in 2021. But the latter persisted in sending him offensive and threatening texts.

On April 25, 2023, Dre allegedly texted the psychiatrist, saying, “Hey doc, of whatever the f—k you’re pretending to be.” Just be aware of this. Until you tell me why you attempted to get [redacted] to make unfavorable remarks about me to the media, I won’t go anywhere. “What a piece of s—t you are!”

According to Sophy, Dre threatened to ruin the therapist’s career and falsely accused him of inciting a third party to damage his reputation. He had to install security cameras, engage private security, and apply for a temporary restraining order because he was so terrified of the music mogul.

The therapist’s request for a permanent restraining order was denied by the judge.

The psychiatrist’s lawsuit claimed that “Given [Dre’s] status as a powerful and influential Hollywood figure and his public and well-documented history of violence and abuse, [Charles] reasonably believed that [Dre] was capable of carrying out his threats and causing physical harm, violence, or death to [Charles].”

In light of this, the therapist made an effort to convert the temporary directive into a permanent one. But according to The Blast, at a hearing held at a Los Angeles courthouse on November 5, a judge denied his motion.

Dre attended the hearing digitally via Zoom, but Sophy showed there in person. The psychiatrist’s claims that the music mogul’s text messages threatened his safety were dismissed by the judge. In light of this, the temporary restraining order was revoked due to insufficient evidence.

The psychiatrist was accused of racism by Dr. Dre.

Dre admitted sending Sophy nasty texts prior to the restraining order hearing, but he denied making “credible threats of violence” that would have prompted a restraining order. Additionally, he denied reports that he sent fictitious FBI agents to the therapist’s residence.

According to the record producer, Sophy’s charges were based on damaging stereotypes. His previous doctor was accused of “invoking the racist caricature that depicts Black men, like [Dre], as inherently violent.”

Dre also chastised Sophy for associating him with other issues, such as the most recent charges against Diddy. The therapist brought up the alleged “violent behavior of [Dre]’s friends” in the $10 million complaint, implying that his dogs were not immune to the Hip-Hop icon’s fury.

Will Dr. Dre be held responsible for his text messages or will the $10 million harassment lawsuit be dropped as he wishes?
