Sheng and Swahili to everyone! Kitu Kidogo, Panya Route, and other words have been added to the Oxford English Dictionary

A number of Swahili and Sheng words have been added to the Oxford English Dictionary lately.

The Sauce has seen some interesting new changes to this list, such as the Sheng term Panya route, Kitu kidogo, Rolex, Bantu knots, African massage, Dholuo, East African, and more.

According to the dictionary, a Panya path is a hidden or extra route, usually used for smuggling.

Kitu kidogo is another word that is now used. It means a small gift or bribe given in exchange for a favor.

The dictionary has also added the word “rolex,” which comes from Uganda and means an egg and vegetable wrap inside a chapati. The name is a funny play on the phrase “rolled eggs.”

The Oxford English Dictionary is known for keeping a complete record of how the English language has changed over time. In July 2022, it added new words like mpango wa kando, chapo, uhuru, githeri, chang’aa, busaa, come-we-stay, buibui, sheng, isukuti, jiko, mandazi, and mabati.
