The Kenyan army will collaborate with Monusco in the eastern Congo to support stabilization efforts

Kenya’s military announced on Sunday that its personnel have departed for the Democratic Republic of the Congo (DRC) to participate in a United Nations peacekeeping force that is responsible for alleviating the deadly tensions that are provoked by armed groups.

On Saturday, the Kenya Defense Force (KDF) announced that the first cohort of the fourth contingent of the Kenya Quick Reaction Force (KENQRF 4) to the Democratic Republic of the Congo (DRC) was officially flagged off, thereby commencing their peacekeeping mission.

According to Stephen Kapkory, the base commander of Embakasi Air Base, the KENQRF 4 will be joining the UN Organisation Stabilisation Mission in the DRC (Monusco). This mission is dedicated to the stabilization of the eastern regions of the DRC, where armed groups continue to cause instability.

“I am assured of your professionalism and level of training.” In Nairobi, the capital of Kenya, Kapkory issued a statement that urged individuals to “maintain a high sense of professionalism and discipline in all of their endeavors” and to continue the exemplary performance of their predecessors.

He expressed confidence in the soldiers’ readiness and capability for the mission, having observed their professional training, clear understanding of their mandate, and preparedness.

The deployment is occurring at a time when Monusco has heightened its efforts to protect civilians, reform the security sector, and disarm, demobilize, and reintegrate combatants, according to KDF.

It stated that the Kenyan troops will be involved in operations against armed groups, protecting civilians, supporting humanitarian efforts, and assisting in the disarmament, demobilization, and reintegration of former combatants. This task has been effectively accomplished by previous contingents.

The nation has a distinguished history of participating in international peacekeeping missions in countries such as Somalia, South Sudan, Namibia, Croatia, Liberia, and Sierra Leone, demonstrating its dedication to regional and global peace and security initiatives.

The commander of KENQRF 4, Simon Seda, expressed his confidence in the readiness of his personnel and their capacity to make a substantial impact in the DRC.

We are confident that our personnel are adequately equipped to tackle the forthcoming challenge. Through rigorous training, they have acquired the requisite skills to execute this mission efficiently. “We are dedicated to the restoration of peace and stability in the Democratic Republic of Congo,” he stated.
