Africa has more denied study visas than any other continent, and the number is continuously rising

According to recent estimates, the continent of Africa has the highest incidence of visa denials worldwide, and this number is only going to continue climbing.

Students from the Global South in general and the African continent in particular who wish to study abroad are denied student visas at disproportionately higher rates than those from other parts of the world, according to the Shorelight report and another study conducted in Europe by the migration consultancy firm, Henley & Partners.

The study conducted by the Shorelight Presidents’ Alliance on Higher Education looks at these patterns from 2015 to 2022, using data from three US presidents as well as pre- and post-Covid pandemic migration.
