Vinícius Júnior has put an end to months of speculation regarding his future by signing a contract extension with Real Madrid that will last until June 2032, as confirmed by the Spanish club on Thursday.
The agreement was finalized a day after the representatives of the Brazilian forward engaged in constructive discussions with club executives, leading Madrid to enhance their prior contract proposal and resolve a year-long impasse in negotiations.
Real Madrid announced that the 26-year-old will continue with the club until June 30, 2032, commending his influence since arriving from Brazil in 2018.
The club reported that Vinícius has made 375 appearances, scored 128 goals, and contributed to Madrid’s success in winning 14 major trophies, which include two UEFA Champions League titles and three LaLiga championships.
Negotiations had been stalled for over a year, as Vinícius’ previous contract was set to expire in June 2027. ESPN reported that Madrid was open to considering his departure this summer if no agreement was reached, with Premier League champions Arsenal among the interested clubs.
Vinícius resumed training on Monday after Brazil’s World Cup journey, and on Wednesday, his representatives held discussions with Madrid officials, including director general José Ángel Sánchez and chief scout Juni Calafat.
ESPN learned from sources that Madrid’s revised offer, which improved upon their previous proposal of around €22 million annually, led to significant progress. Vinícius was said to be pursuing a deal valued at approximately €30 million per year.
Since arriving in Madrid at the age of 18, Vinícius has become one of the club’s essential players, finding the net in two Champions League finals. He secured the second position for the 2024 Ballon d’Or and received the title of FIFA’s Best Men’s Player that year.
