US celebrity blogger Perez Hilton is currently recuperating in a hospital following an incident during a TikTok livestream, where emergency services were called after he seemed to inflict harm on himself.
The Miami-Dade Sheriff’s Office said deputies were called to a residence in Miami on Tuesday following reports of a man “livestreaming acts of self-harm on social media.”
Authorities confirmed that a person had been safely recovered and transported to a local hospital for medical attention, although they did not disclose the individual’s name.
The sheriff’s office reported that its crisis response unit, along with licensed mental health professionals, was dispatched to offer support and resources to the family of the individual involved.
Hilton, known as Mario Lavandeira, was at home by himself during the livestream, as reported by the police. His TikTok account was suspended soon after the incident.
In a statement, the Miami-Dade Sheriff’s Office reported that deputies found the residence, communicated with family members, and verified that the individual was inside alone.
Authorities indicated that officers focused on de-escalation during their evaluation of the situation, noting that crisis intervention strategies were implemented to promote safety. “Deputies focus on de-escalation by establishing time, distance, and opportunities for communication,” the sheriff’s office stated, clarifying that these methods are employed during mental health emergencies.
Representatives from Hilton, Dante Rusciolelli and Rebekah Kochan, acknowledged the troubling content circulating online regarding their client and stated they were in the process of verifying his condition. “Currently, we have not succeeded in establishing direct contact with him, despite our continuous efforts to do so.”
They said their top priority is Perez’s and his family’s health and well-being, and they asked for privacy.
Hilton rose to prominence in the early 2000s with his celebrity gossip website, which garnered attention for its bold commentary on Hollywood stars.
The blogger chose the name Perez Hilton as a nod to socialite Paris Hilton, who was among the most frequently covered celebrities during that period.
Throughout the years, his provocative style garnered criticism from various celebrities, such as Miley Cyrus, Khloe Kardashian, Mila Kunis, and Lady Gaga.
However, Hilton later expressed regret for some of his earlier work and stated that he had altered his approach to online commentary.
In his 2020 memoir, he contemplated his past actions, stating: “I have a ton of regrets, particularly because I now see that I never needed to be so mean or cruel.”
