Mudryk’s lengthy anticipation concludes with a heartfelt return to Chelsea
Ukraine winger Mykhailo Mudryk made a heartfelt comeback to the Chelsea team on Wednesday, just days after discovering that his anti-doping ban had been shortened.
The 25-year-old made his appearance from the bench during Chelsea’s pre-season Tour match against Juventus in Hong Kong, marking his first action since receiving news of an adverse analytical finding in December 2024.

Mudryk joined Chelsea from Shakhtar Donetsk in 2023 for an initial fee of 62 million pounds ($78.72 million), but his career faced significant challenges when he received a four-year ban from the English Football Association for testing positive for the banned substance meldonium.
He consistently maintained that he had never knowingly or intentionally used a banned substance and was cleared to return to play on Friday after the FA completed disciplinary proceedings in conjunction with the World Anti-Doping Agency (WADA).
Before Wednesday’s game, Alonso stated that “no decision” had been reached regarding Mudryk’s future at Chelsea. He said after the game that it was essential to have Mudryk back on the field.

Following the hearing last week, the FA observed that Mudryk would not have faced any negative findings under WADA’s current technical document, owing to changes implemented after his positive test.
According to the FA, if Mr. Mudryk’s sample had been collected today, the concentration of meldonium would not have been reported, and no ADRVs would have occurred.
