The 21-year-old prospect stands poised to become the youngest heavyweight world champion since Mike Tyson, should he triumph over the seasoned Croatian opponent. The IBF title was left vacant following Oleksandr Usyk’s decision to relinquish the belt in June.
Promoter Frank Warren conveyed his assurance in Itauma, characterizing the undefeated heavyweight as a fighter who has “taken the world by storm” since entering the professional arena. Itauma has built an impressive 14-0 record, including 12 knockouts, and is considered one of the most promising young talents in boxing.
The title fight was confirmed after Cuban contender Frank Sanchez agreed to step aside in exchange for a guaranteed opportunity to face the winner. Itauma enters the match after notable wins against Jermaine Franklin and Dillian Whyte, while Hrgovic, boasting a professional record of 20 victories, recently halted Dave Allen in the third round in May.
