The 20-year-old surged to victory in 44.25 seconds at Scotstoun Stadium on Saturday, pulling ahead of the competition in the final stages after entering the race as the clear favorite. Jereem Richards from Trinidad and Tobago secured second place with a time of 44.82 seconds, while Zakithi Nene of South Africa took home the bronze medal, finishing in 45.21 seconds.

Ogazi signaled his intentions in the semifinals, recording a time of 44.52 seconds, the fastest 400m semifinal ever at the Commonwealth Games, and securing his spot in the final with ease. He upheld that form when it was crucial, delivering a poised and commanding performance to achieve Nigeria’s historic milestone in the men’s one-lap race.

The victory concluded an extraordinary season for the Nigerian sprinter, who earlier this year shattered the country’s long-standing 400m national record with a time of 44.02 seconds.
