Soulja Boy claims that COVID-19 was “fake,” yet the reality of over 7 million reported deaths presents a contrasting narrative
The rapper’s recent remarks reignited a passionate discussion surrounding COVID and vaccination, yet his assertions contradict existing public health data.
Soulja Boy’s tweets regarding COVID-19 are igniting discussions as the rapper challenges the vaccine and asserts that the virus is a hoax.
In one post, he stated, “I knew that COVID nonsense was fabricated.” He followed that with another message saying, “What was in that vaccine? ” You are foolish if you took that substance.

It is not clear what led to Soulremarks comments regarding the vaccine. Neither of the two posts mentions a vaccine manufacturer, outlines a medical issue, or specifies a particular event that prompted him to speak out.
The timing coincides with the resurgence of discussions surrounding COVID policy and decisions made during the pandemic era. During a Senate hearing on July 29, former federal infectious disease official Anthony Fauci consistently invoked his Fifth Amendment rights as Republican lawmakers probed him regarding the government’s management of COVID-19.
While discussions surrounding government restrictions, vaccine policy, mandates, messaging, and the pandemic response continue to be politically contentious, the assertion that COVID-19 was fabricated contradicts established medical evidence. COVID-19 is an infectious disease that arises from the SARS-CoV-2 virus. According to a fact sheet released by WHO in November 2025, there have been nearly 780 million cases and over 7.1 million reported deaths globally since December 2019, with indications that the true figures are likely higher.
The virus has not simply vanished. In a July 2026 epidemiological update, the WHO reported that SARS CoV 2 was still circulating globally. A separate statement from the WHO in May 2026 indicated that the virus continued to cause severe disease, post-COVID conditions, and deaths. However, its impact on health systems had significantly decreased compared to the initial years of the pandemic, thanks to population immunity, vaccination, and enhanced clinical care.
Soulja Boy’s inquiry regarding the contents of the vaccine is also addressed by information provided by federal regulators. The Food and Drug Administration’s current Comirnaty page offers product information, package inserts, regulatory reviews, and safety information regarding the Pfizer BioNTech mRNA COVID vaccine. The FDA publishes a package insert for Spikevax that details its mRNA component and other ingredients, such as lipids, sucrose, and additional compounds utilized in the formulation.
That does not imply that COVID vaccines are without potential risks. The FDA’s Comirnaty information highlights updated labeling concerning myocarditis and pericarditis following mRNA COVID vaccination. Public health reporting must recognize documented risks while refraining from transforming those risks into unfounded claims lacking evidence.
Currently, federal health information continues to characterize vaccination as a safeguard against severe outcomes. As per a June 2026 update from the CDC, COVID vaccines demonstrate effectiveness in safeguarding against severe illness, hospitalization, and mortality. The agency’s guidance at that time advised vaccination for individuals six months and older, emphasizing the importance of discussing personal benefits with a health care provider.
Soulja Boy isn’t the only rapper voicing his opinions on the vaccine. Nicki Minaj famously asserted that COVID-19 led to swollen testicles. Health officials promptly dismissed this idea, contending that there was no evidence to support any such reactions.
