Dame Dash says Jay-Z’s breath used to smell like “cinnamon doo-doo”
Dame turned the whole thing into a roast about the hair, the breath, and a new nickname after Jay called him out by name in that freestyle.
Jay-Z made a pointed remark during his performance at the Roots Picnic, and Dame Dash was always prepared to respond with the most impactful retort. The freestyle was played on The Art of Dialogue, and Dame heard the lines that were directed at him. He chose to roast Jay’s appearance and breath instead of responding with another verse.
He cut off the hair. When Jay got to Belmont Plateau, he had big hair after having freeform locs for years. Dame just couldn’t let it go. He said the style was so confusing that it was challenging for him to hear the words. He then began to wonder if any of it was real. He mocked the lack of before-and-after footage and asked Jay who convinced him to go with the look and how they got the hair to sit that way.
This moment is where the piece breaks. The wig idea was shot down right away when Beyoncé’s CRED brand said that Jay’s afro was actually his hair. Dame kept swinging anyway, and he finally came up with a new name for his old partner. By making fun of the thickness of his new hair, he started calling him “Dookie Wick” and told everyone it was time to “make him great again.”
Then he reached all the way back for the day’s smallest jab. Dame said Jay’s breath used to smell terrible and that he would chew on Big Red to cover it up. Dame called this “cinnamon doo-doo.” The insult has nothing to do with the music and everything to do with the fact that two guys have been seeing each other for twenty years.
That is the main idea behind everything. Dame and Jay collaborated to establish Roc-A-Fella, but eventually, they parted ways. In the past few years, Dame has been open about his money problems. Jay is at the top of his field, and that shows in every word. The Roots Picnic solo was just an excuse for Dame to bring up the subject again, and he did so as far as a Big Red joke would allow.
Again, Jay hasn’t said anything back.
