Crystal Palace triumphed in the Conference League Final against Rayo Vallecano, securing their first European trophy

Jean-Philippe Mateta netted the decisive goal in a 1-0 victory for Crystal Palace over Rayo Vallecano, securing their inaugural European trophy.

Jean-Philippe Mateta netted the crucial goal as Crystal Palace clinched their inaugural European trophy with a 1-0 win against Rayo Vallecano in the UEFA Conference League final held in Leipzig.

The French striker scored from close range six minutes into the second half after Rayo goalkeeper Augusto Batalla deflected Adam Wharton’s shot directly into his path.

The victory marked a historic milestone for Palace and served as a fitting farewell for manager Oliver Glasner, who departs the club after leading the Eagles to the FA Cup, Community Shield, and Conference League titles during an impressive two-and-a-half-year tenure.

Both teams were competing in their inaugural European final and delivered a careful opening half. Rayo’s nearest attempts were made by Alemao and Unai Lopez, whereas Palace’s most promising opportunity before halftime was taken by Tyrick Mitchell, who headed wide from Wharton’s cross.

Mateta’s goal ultimately proved sufficient, despite the late pressure from the Spanish side. Yeremy Pino hit both posts with a free-kick and subsequently set up another opportunity for the Palace forward, but Batalla thwarted him with an impressive save.

Rayo, one of La Liga’s smallest-budget clubs, faced difficulties in generating clear opportunities in the final moments as Palace maintained their composure to secure a notable victory and bid farewell to Glasner with yet another trophy.
