Mamelodi Sundowns of South Africa win their second CAF Champions League title

Mamelodi Sundowns of South Africa won the regional title after a thrilling second-leg tie with FAR Rabat of Morocco.

South African team Mamelodi Sundowns won their second CAF Champions League title on Sunday, after a 1-1 draw with FAR Rabat gave them a 2-1 all-around win.

Sundowns had a 1-0 lead going into the second leg, but they lost in the 40th minute when Divine Lunga fouled Reda Slim and Mohamed Hrimat scored a penalty.

Just before halftime, Teboho Mokoena tied the game with a shot that hit the underside of the goal. This gave Sundowns the lead again after the first half.

In the second half, goalie Ronwen Williams fouled Youssef El Fahli and gave FAR Rabat another penalty. However, Williams saved Hrimat’s shot to keep Sundowns ahead.

Even though Sundowns gave up the first goal, coach Miguel Cardoso said he was still hopeful.

Caroso said, “Even after the first penalty, I still thought we could score at any time.” “We deserved to win in the end.”

After winning the regional title in 2016, this was Sundowns’ second win in a row. The previous year, they lost the final to Pyramids FC. In 1985, FAR Rabat was the last winner.
