Sugar Ray Leonard put in a restraining order against his own 25-year-old son, but police later found him trying out door handles. At 5 a.m.
An early morning incident at a gated West Los Angeles home has put one of the most famous families in boxing in a painful and public legal situation. Daniel Leonard, 25, broke a protection order by attempting to enter his father’s house on Wednesday morning. Daniel is the youngest son of legendary boxer Sugar Ray Leonard.
The Los Angeles Police Department stated that officers went to the 1500 block of Amalfi Drive just before 5:30 a.m. after getting a radio call about a violation of a restraining order at a private residence. Sugar Ray’s security team called 911 after Daniel allegedly attempted to enter by manipulating the outside door handles. Officers found him near the pool house on the land and arrested him. According to court records in Los Angeles County, the older Leonard recently asked for the restraining order against his son, but it’s still not clear why he did so. A court meeting about the case is set for June 15.
The arrest is very different from what people thought was a warm relationship between the father and son. In the summer of 2025, they appeared in a photo together with Magic Johnson. Leonard wrote on his November 2023 birthday, “So thrilled to be with my son Daniel this weekend! “I’m so proud of you. Happy Birthday!” But there were small signs of stress: Daniel wasn’t in the family pictures from his mother Bernadette’s birthday party in April, and Bernadette wrote in a Valentine’s Day post, “Happy Valentine’s to my hearts. I love you both so much, and we’ll get through this together!
He has one child with his wife Bernadette Robi. Their youngest child is Daniel. He also has a grandson named Devin Leonard and three other children: a daughter named Camille and two sons named Ray Charles Jr. and Jarrel. As of Wednesday, neither Sugar Ray Leonard nor his son had made a public comment.
