English manager Tuchel took Foden, Palmer, and Maguire off of the team for the World Cup

English manager Thomas Tuchel will not have Phil Foden, Cole Palmer, or Harry Maguire in his World Cup group.

On Friday, Thomas Tuchel will name England’s 26-man World Cup team, but Phil Foden, Cole Palmer, and Harry Maguire will not be in it.

Maguire, a defender for Manchester United, revealed the news in a tearful Instagram post. He said he was “shocked and gutted” to have missed out, even though he still thought he could play a key role for England. He was kicked off along with Luke Shaw, Levi Colwill, and Fikayo Tomori, all of whom are defenders.

Foden and Palmer are also likely to be left out because their seasons with Manchester City and Chelsea were inconsistent and hurt a lot. Another important player who isn’t there is Morgan Gibbs-White, a defender for Nottingham Forest who scored 14 goals and tied for the most goals in the Premier League with another English player.

Ollie Watkins, a striker for Aston Villa, is likely to be called up after helping his team win the Europa League on Wednesday. After a fantastic season in Saudi Arabia, Al-Ahli forward Ivan Toney is also probably going to be called up.

Arsenal’s Bukayo Saka, Declan Rice, and Eberechi Eze are all likely to be in the team. Kobbie Mainoo, a midfielder for Manchester United, is also likely to stay on after doing well in recent matches.

Even though there are worries about his fitness, Manchester City defender John Stones is likely to be picked because Tuchel sees him as an important member of his team.

England will play matches against New Zealand and Costa Rica as a warm-up before their first World Cup game against Croatia on June 17. They will then play Ghana and Panama in their group.
