Trump Warns of Potentially ‘Obliterating’ Iranian Infrastructure If Agreement Is Not Achieved Promptly

Donald Trump has issued a warning to dismantle Iran’s power plants and oil facilities if a ceasefire agreement is not reached promptly.

US President Donald Trump has cautioned that the United States may focus on Iran’s power plants, oil wells, and the significant fuel hub Kharg Island if an agreement with Tehran is not achieved “shortly,” while asserting that substantial discussions are in progress with a “new and more reasonable” Iranian regime.

In a post on Truth Social, Trump stated, “Great progress has been made, but if a deal is not shortly reached, which it probably will be, and if the Hormuz Strait is not immediately ‘Open for Business,’ we will conclude our lovely ‘stay’ in Iran by blowing up and completely obliterating all of their electric generating plants, oil wells, and Kharg Island (and possibly all desalinization plants), which we have purposefully left ‘untouched.'”

“This will serve as retribution for the numerous soldiers and others that Iran has brutally killed during the old Regime’s 47-year ‘Reign of Terror.’”

Iran has characterized US demands as “excessive and unreasonable.” A representative from Iran’s Foreign Ministry, Baghaei, stated that Tehran has not engaged in direct negotiations with the US, with conversations thus far taking place only through intermediaries. He further alleged that the US frequently alters its stance, casting doubt on the reliability of American diplomacy.

The rising rhetoric coincides with a spike in oil prices, which have reached $115 per barrel, amid reports of new attacks in Iran, Lebanon, and Israel. In the UK, Prime Minister Keir Starmer is scheduled to meet with business leaders at Downing Street to address the economic implications of the conflict while emphasizing that “this conflict is not our war.”

Analysts are examining whether Trump’s recent threats, especially those aimed at Kharg Island and Iran’s energy infrastructure, represent a strategic bluff or a legitimate warning, in light of escalating regional tensions and the ongoing indirect negotiations between the two nations.

The situation underscores increasing instability in the Middle East and the delicate prospects for diplomacy, as both sides hold steadfast positions in the face of ongoing military and economic pressures.
