Mary Cosby’s Last Police Interview Uncovered After Heartbreaking Loss of Her Son
The RHOSLC star offered a glimpse into Robert Cosby Jr.’s home life just weeks prior to his passing.
The Salt Lake City community is still coming to terms with the loss of Robert Cosby Jr., as new police documents reveal the legal turmoil surrounding his final days.
In January 2026, mere weeks before his tragic passing, officials met with his mother, Mary Cosby, a star from the Real Housewives of Salt Lake City, to address claims of domestic unrest concerning his former spouse, Alexiana Smokoff.
The meeting, held on January 9, featured the Bravo star providing an alternative viewpoint on her son’s marriage compared to what was being communicated to dispatchers. The reality star informed the officers that she rarely witnessed her late son and his wife in conflict. Cosby admitted that the two engaged in verbal disputes but stated she was not aware of any physical confrontations.
Mary stood resolute in her belief that her son had no history of aggression. Officials report that the Church leader refuted claims of her son’s violence, asserting that she did not raise him in that manner. Although she projected a serene portrayal of their domestic life, Cosby asserted that she did not observe any injuries on either individual while they were in her home. On one occasion, Robert Jr. and another individual leaped off a balcony while under the influence.
Smokoff’s significantly more troubling account prompted these statements. In November 2025, she reached out to law enforcement to report a confrontation that had occurred the previous spring. Smokoff asserted that Robert Jr., who was in prison at the time of the report, became furious after she disposed of his drugs in the toilet six months prior “because she was fed up with his drug use.”
The beginning of 2026 turned out to be a tumultuous period for the 23-year-old. In the weeks prior to Robert Jr.’s tragic death, the young adult faced charges of domestic violence and had an outstanding warrant for his arrest.
Following a short period of incarceration due to a violation of a protective order, the legal system sought to guide him toward rehabilitation. As part of his release on February 3, he was mandated to fulfill 75 hours of community service and to attend substance abuse and anger management classes throughout his 24 months of probation.
Sadly, the weight of his impending felony assault charges and his struggle with addiction culminated in a breaking point shortly thereafter.
On February 23, the inquiry into his life took a serious turn. Robert Jr. was discovered deceased following officers’ response to an overdose report that evolved into a death investigation.
