Jamaica is just one victory away from making a second World Cup appearance after defeating New Caledonia, with DR Congo standing in their path

Jamaica secured a 1-0 victory over New Caledonia, advancing to the playoff final, where they will face DR Congo for a chance at the World Cup.

The Jamaica national football team is now just one victory away from achieving a second FIFA World Cup appearance, following their 1-0 triumph over the New Caledonia national football team in the inter-confederation playoff semifinal.

The win sustains Jamaica’s aspirations of qualifying for the global tournament for the first time since 1998, after a challenging match in Guadalajara.

The pivotal moment came quickly in the match, when Bailey Cadamarteri scored in the 18th minute, giving the Caribbean team a substantial lead.

Even in defeat, New Caledonia fought hard for an equalizer and challenged Jamaica’s defense, yet they could not achieve a breakthrough as the Reggae Boyz stood resolute to clinch the victory.

Jamaica is set to compete against the DR Congo national football team on Tuesday in the playoff final, with a spot in the 2026 FIFA World Cup on the line.

The victor of the pivotal showdown will secure a spot in the tournament in North America, representing a noteworthy achievement for either team.

For Jamaica, a win would mark a long-awaited return to football’s biggest stage, while DR Congo seeks to end a decades-long absence from the competition.

As the stakes reach their peak in this decisive match, the Reggae Boyz find themselves on the verge of making history, requiring only one more victory to finalize their qualification quest.
