Investigation Initiated Into Alleged Iran-Related Arson Attack Targeting Jewish Ambulances In London

Authorities are looking into a suspected arson attack linked to Iran that resulted in the destruction of four Jewish ambulances in London.

Authorities in Britain have initiated an investigation into a suspected arson attack on ambulances affiliated with a Jewish charity in Golders Green, London, as officials explore potential connections to Iranian-backed organizations.

In the early hours of Monday, Hatzola’s four ambulances caught fire, causing multiple explosions from the onboard gas canisters. The incident is regarded as an antisemitic hate crime, although law enforcement has not categorized it as terrorism.

Commissioner Mark Rowley stated that investigators are examining all avenues of inquiry, including an online assertion of responsibility by an Islamist group thought to have possible connections to the Iranian state. He did, however, warn that it is “too early” to directly link the attack to Tehran. Authorities suspect the involvement of at least three individuals in the incident.

The assault occurs against a backdrop of increasing worries regarding what officials characterize as a significant uptick in aggressive actions associated with Iran. Rowley cautioned about a changing threat environment, referencing several thwarted plots and heightened surveillance aimed at both Iranian dissidents and Jewish communities in the UK.

An Iran-aligned group, Harakat Ashab al-Yamin al-Islamiya—The Islamic Movement of the People of the Right Hand, has taken to social media to assert responsibility for the attack, although this claim has yet to be verified. The group has previously claimed involvement in comparable incidents throughout Europe, including assaults on synagogues and Jewish institutions in Belgium and the Netherlands.

In response, police have enhanced security measures by deploying 264 additional officers and increasing visible armed patrols to safeguard Jewish communities throughout London. In the meantime, the UK government has called upon Iran’s ambassador to the UK, Seyed Ali Mousavi, to express its condemnation of what it characterized as Iran’s “reckless and destabilizing actions.”

The incident has raised concerns among the Jewish community, especially in Golders Green, where there is a notable Jewish population. Officials have called for solidarity and alertness as inquiries progress.
