Cuba Prepared to Counter US Threats, Dismisses Regime Change Discussions

Cuba has announced its intention to mobilize in response to any aggression from the US, downplaying concerns about invasion while refuting any discussions regarding regime change with Washington.

Cuba has announced its readiness to defend itself against any possible military action from the United States, amid escalating tensions due to statements from Donald Trump and a continuing oil blockade.

During remarks made over the weekend, Cuban Deputy Foreign Minister Carlos Fernandez de Cossio stated that the country is prepared, although it does not view a conflict as probable.

“Historically, our nation has demonstrated a readiness to unite for military action … “We don’t think it’s likely, but it would be foolish not to prepare,” he stated.

“We do not understand why such an event should take place, and we see no justification for it at all.”

The remarks come in the wake of increasingly bold statements from Trump, who expressed his anticipation of having the “honor” of taking Cuba as the oil blockade from Washington intensifies the economic pressures on the Caribbean nation.

In light of the escalating tensions, de Cossio countered claims indicating that the US aims to oust Cuban President Miguel Diaz-Canel from his position.

He stated that any conversation regarding changes to Cuba’s political leadership is excluded from the current discussions between Havana and Washington, emphasizing that regime change is “absolutely” off the table.

At the same time, a senior US general responsible for military operations in Latin America informed lawmakers that the US military is neither rehearsing for an invasion nor actively preparing to seize control of the island.

The developments underscore the tense relations between the two countries, even as diplomatic discussions persist amid increasing economic and political pressure.
