Authorities Investigate Possible Antisemitic Arson Following Ambulance Fires in North London
Police categorize the fire in Golders Green, which destroyed four ambulances belonging to the Jewish community, as an antisemitic hate crime.
Authorities have initiated an investigation following the arson of four ambulances owned by a Jewish community organization in north London, which is being treated as a suspected antisemitic hate crime.
The Metropolitan Police has confirmed that the incident took place in Golders Green, stating, “An investigation has been launched after four ambulances belonging to the Jewish Community Ambulance service were set on fire in Golders Green.”
“Officers are still present at the location, and the arson incident is being classified as a hate crime motivated by antisemitism.”
The ambulances were operated by Hatzola, a volunteer-based, non-profit organization dedicated to delivering emergency medical services to the Jewish community.
The London Fire Brigade reported the deployment of six fire engines and 40 firefighters following emergency calls received at 0140 GMT.
“Several cylinders on the vehicles detonated, resulting in windows shattering in a nearby block of flats.” No injuries have been reported.
By 0306 GMT, firefighters had successfully brought the blaze under control, averting additional damage in the densely populated area.
The incident occurs amid increasing assaults on Jewish individuals and institutions worldwide, following the Hamas attacks that initiated the Gaza war.
In Britain, authorities have noted a marked rise in antisemitic incidents since the onset of the conflict, prompting worries among community organizations and security agencies about the safety of Jewish individuals and the potential for further violence in the community.
