Akon Addresses the Situation and Provides Insight on Akon City: “I Ceased Promotion to Avoid Sabotage”
The “Locked Up” singer asserts that Africa’s system is structured to hinder progress as he advances his $6 billion project discreetly.
The vision for Akon City remains alive, though it has now adopted a more understated approach.
Following years of headlines scrutinizing the advancement of his $6 billion “real-life Wakanda” project in Senegal, Akon recently joined the Kid L Podcast to clarify the situation. The mogul disclosed that the absence of public updates is not indicative of failure, but instead a strategic decision to safeguard the project from what he refers to as “coordinated sabotage.”
Akon shared that once his vision garnered global attention, it turned into a significant target. “It began to attract attention.” When I initially shared the news, there was a wave of excitement from everyone. “However, as it began to gain traction, that’s when the sabotage commenced,” Akon revealed. He observed that the ongoing media attention and online doubt started to impede real progress, prompting him to alter his strategy. “I ceased promoting it because the more I discussed it, the more it attracted individuals aiming to undermine it.”
The singer openly addressed the challenges he has encountered on the continent, indicating that the existing infrastructure is not designed to facilitate revolutionary change. “You know, Africa’s system is structured to suppress issues like this.” It is not organized to facilitate advancement in that manner. They are reluctant to witness such a success, as it would alter everything. He asserted that it would demonstrate what is achievable, which poses a threat to much of the existing order.
Akon states that by reducing the marketing efforts, he is finally giving the project the space it needs to develop. He directly responded to rumors regarding the land being seized or the project being a scam, emphasizing that the groundwork is still being established out of the public view. “I scaled back on the marketing and promotion to allow it to develop quietly, letting the work unfold behind the scenes without attracting negative attention or misinformation, such as false claims that it’s not happening or that the land was taken or any other rumors.” Once they fully understand your actions and the scale of your endeavors, that’s when the true sabotage begins.
He assured fans and investors that his dedication to the city, as well as the land he possesses, remains steadfast. “Yet it continues to progress, you see?” It is my purpose. I own the land; that is a fact. It’s simply more peaceful now to steer clear of all that commotion.
