Maria Corina Machado, the opposition leader, announces her plans to return to Venezuela in the upcoming weeks
Maria Corina Machado, the Venezuelan opposition leader and Nobel Peace Prize laureate, announced her intention to return to the country in the upcoming weeks through a message shared on her social media accounts on Sunday.
Machado, a 58-year-old industrial engineer, departed from Venezuela in December for Oslo to accept the award and is presently in the United States.
Discussion regarding Machado’s return has been widespread since the U.S. apprehended former Venezuelan leader Nicolas Maduro on January 3.
Machado is currently being investigated in Venezuela, with Interim President Delcy Rodriguez stating that she must “answer to Venezuela” for her backing of U.S. military action against Caracas.
