Wilfred Ndidi, captain of the Super Eagles, loses his father in a car accident
The Super Eagles captain receives condolences from Besiktas when Wilfred Ndidi’s father passes away in a traffic accident in Delta State.
Sunday Ndidi, the father of Super Eagles captain Wilfred Ndidi, passed away on Tuesday after being involved in a car accident.
After being taken to a hospital in Agbor, Delta State, following an accident in Umunede, Delta State, the former military officer was pronounced dead.
In a statement posted on its official X account, Ndidi’s club, Besiktas, acknowledged the death.
The team stated, “We are deeply saddened to learn of the tragic passing of our football player Wilfred Ndidi’s esteemed father, Sunday Ndidi, in a fatal traffic accident.”
Our football player Wilfred Ndidi, his family, and loved ones have our deepest sympathies; may Allah provide mercy to the deceased.
While playing in Morocco for the 2025 Africa Cup of Nations, Ndidi scored his first goal for his country and led Nigeria to third place.
The midfielder honored his father and expressed his respect for former Nigerian captain Kanu Nwankwo while celebrating his headed goal against Tunisia in Nigeria’s second group encounter.
Ndidi told reporters in Morocco, “My dad wanted to celebrate because he was always talking about Kanu Nwankwo.”
So I just had my father on my mind. Although I had already seen the video, I decided to perform it for my dad after it crossed my mind.
Lagos is where Ndidi was born and reared, and he frequently talks about growing up in the barracks with his father.
