Morocco loses its chance to host the 2030 World Cup Final following the controversial surrounding AFCON 2025
Morocco has seemingly missed the chance to host the final of the 2030 FIFA World Cup, due to events that marred the 2025 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) final.
The 2030 World Cup will be co-hosted by Spain, Portugal, and Morocco. At first, Morocco was a leading candidate to host the tournament’s highlight match, representing a potentially historic occasion for the North African country.
Nonetheless, recent developments regarding the AFCON 2025 final seem to have changed those plans.
Reports suggest that the occurrences during and following the AFCON final between the host nation Morocco and Senegal have sparked significant concerns on a global scale.
The incidents, characterized by global observers as detrimental to the reputation of international football, led organizers to reevaluate Morocco’s preparedness to host the World Cup final.
Rafael Louzán, President of the Spanish Football Federation, announced that Spain will be the host of the 2030 World Cup final.
The final match will take place here. Louzán stated, “Spain has showcased its ability to organize effectively.”
He remarked, “We have witnessed moments during the African Cup final that tarnish the reputation of world football.”
Although Morocco will continue to be one of the co-hosts for the 2030 tournament, this decision marks a notable setback for the country, which had aspired to highlight its historic role in the World Cup with the final match.
Football analysts suggest that the change could affect Morocco’s standing internationally, yet co-hosting the tournament remains a significant chance for the country to highlight its football infrastructure and enthusiasm for the game.
